How many freshmen can we expect to play on Saturday?

The depth chart that Bill O'Brien released earlier this week included six freshmen among the top two at each position: Tight end Jesse James, wide receiver Eugene Lewis, wide receiver Trevor Williams, linebacker Nyeem Wartman, cornerback Da'Quan Davis and quarterback Steven Bench.

Let's rule out Steven Bench for sure. Though O'Brien likes the way he's played and has said Bench is pushing Paul Jones, I can't imagine a freshman quarterback going in for a few snaps behind Matt McGloin, especially considering O'Brien said Jones is still a little ahead of Bench.

Nyeem Wartman has a chance to play, but his name has barely come up in press conferences.

My guess is that James, Lewis, Williams and Davis all have a very good chance to play in Saturday's game. Williams and Lewis might even start at wide receiver. The two of them, along with James, play at positions where O'Brien plans to use a lot of different players. No reason to think that they won't play and contribute.

Davis will also likely get in. He's been favorably talked about by O'Brien and players throughout camp. Also, with Penn State's secondary inexperienced and thin, O'Brien needs to try out as many players back there as he can.
