Minor league report - Gibbons leads Penguins past rival Bears

Center Brian Gibbons had a short-handed goal and an assist for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins who defeated the rival Hershey Bears, 3-1, in their home opener Saturday.

Right winger Chris Conner and center Zach Sill each scored goals for the Penguins while goaltender Jeff Droin-Deslauriers made 18 saves.

The Penguins' next game is on the road Sunday against the Syracuse Crunch, 5 p.m.

Goaltender Mike Condon made 25 saves for the Wheeling Nailers who finished their preseason with a 6-2 road loss to the Fort Wayne Komets Saturday.

The Nailers will open their regular season with a home game against the Elmira Jackals Friday 7 p.m.
