Morning skate report

Jenn Menendez 9 years ago

Veteran defenseman Paul Martin was back on the ice this morning with the Penguins after a “maintenance day” yesterday to deal with some back stiffness. Coach Mike Johnston said Martin was monitored closely and reported feeling great.

He is expected to be in the lineup tonight when the Penguins host the defending Stanley Cup champion L.A. Kings.

Of NOTE:

***The Penguins recalled forward Jayson Megna from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton this morning primarily to add depth to the lineup for the next few games.

Megna played 36 games with the Penguins last year, and has two goals, and one assist in nine games this season in the American Hockey League.

“[Megna] had a good camp and down there so far in [Wilkes-Barre/Scranton] the reports are very good,” said Johnston.

***Winger Beau Bennett is a week to 10 days away from playing once he adds contact drills, which should happen over the next four days, said Johnston.

“First control contact, and then contact with the team at practice,” said Johnston. “ It’s all been tempo drills he’s done so far, change of direction drills.”
