Practice report

The Penguins practiced at the Icoplex at Southpointe today and will be off on Wednesday.

The biggest news to come out of practice is that if all goes well at the club’s next practice on Thursday, Patrick Hornqvist and Kris Letang may rejoin the lineup by the weekend, according to Coach Mike Johnston.

***Hornqvist is expected to practice Thursday, said Johnston and: “seems to be fine. It’s a matter of just making sure that he can go through practice like we do with everybody else.” He did not confirm if this means a concussion was ruled out.

***Letang, who has missed five games with a groin injury, practiced at full speed, which was a good sign, said Johnston.

“I thought Letang looked good today in practice,” said Johnston. “That was a full practice for him, full out all contact drills. That’s a real good sign. If he gets one more in him I would expect he should be close to playing on Friday.”

***There was not much of an update on Olli Maatta. Johnston said he is injured and still being evaluated. He did practice with the team today.

***Scott Wilson, who is on injured reserve with the Penguins, was spotted in the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton locker room on Tuesday, according to the Citizens Voice. Click here to read the post.

***The Penguins rash of injuries has forced Johnston to slow things down at practice.

“As lines and defensive pairs play together they read off each other really well,” said Johnston. “You’re at a point now where we don’t have lines that have played together any more. So It’s a matter of watching more video with them, sitting down talking about how they’re breaking out together, what they’re doing in the offensive zone.”
