Pens asking price, and could the sale heat up soon?

The Penguins are reportedly seeking a record $750 million for the sale of the team, according to a report in TSN on Wednesday afternoon.

The Post-Gazette has not independently confirmed that specific asking price, but it falls in line with figures that experts have told us the franchise could be worth if development rights to the adjacent land is included.

A source said today that there currently appears to be more than one legitimate interested party interested in buying the Penguins who has gone through extensive due diligence, including participating in management meetings.

The same source said the sale may take a leap forward shortly after Labor Day.
