Right winger Beau Bennett participated in Penguins’ practice at Cranberry today. It was his first practice since suffering an undisclosed injury in a 3-2 home loss to the Canadiens Oct. 3.

Bennett, no stranger to various medical ailments, revealed he injured himself celebrating a goal he scored in that game:

On today’s practice:

“It felt good. It's definitely good for the mental aspect. I didn't miss too much time. I started skating two days after the initial injury. I feel pretty good and I felt really good on the ice. Hopefully it just progresses into playing the next game.”

On being injured in the Oct. 13 game:

“I played half the game purely off adrenaline. I knew something was a little off but didn't really think too much of it. I was feeling good in that game and definitely the next morning it really set in. Luckily, it subsided pretty quick in terms of pain. It feels pretty good now.”

How he was injured:

“I hurt myself celebrating a goal unfortunately. It's just unlucky but I've learned to keep my arms and celebrate less I guess.”

Again on today’s practice:

“Today was kind of the last kind of step. It  was just pushing and shoving and battling. Battled for 30 minutes out there me and [center] Eric Fehr. Didn't notice anything off. Felt really good in the corners. Felt up to speed and up to tempo. So that's all the main keys.”

Could he play in Wednesdays road game against the Capitals:

“As soon as they want me to play, I think I'll be able to go. I would love to. I think it's up to coaches and whenever I'm in the lineup.”

Does he regret celebrating to the point of injuring himself:

“No. Mentally, it was annoying more than anything. Once I kind of talked with the trainers, it's something that happened. It's something a lot of guys go through. I was back on the ice in two days. I was back in the gym working on my legs two days after. So I didn't take any time off really. I think that was the main thing and feeling really good today on the ice.”

Sarcastically, he was asked if he might avoid scoring to avoid injuries:

“No. Maybe celebrating less. Hopefully I can score a lot more.”

Right winger Bryan Rust did not participate in practice a day after being struck on the right arm or hand by a shot from Predators defenseman Seth Jones in a 2-1 overtime win in Nashville.

Head coach Mike Johnston suggested the injury could be long term:

“Rust is going to be out. We haven't determined a timeframe on it but he's going to be out. It's not going to be day to day. I should have a probably better timeframe on it in the next day or two.”

Left winger Bobby Farnham was placed on waivers. If he clears by noon Monday, he could be assigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League.

---

Defenseman Brian Dumoulin practiced a day after being boarded by Predators left winger Austin Watson. He had little in the way of any aftereffects from the hit.

“I feel good,” Dumoulin said. “Obviously, it’s a little stiff just from the whiplash. But the tests were fine. After, I wasn’t seeing stars. I’m feeling fine right now.”
