Minor league report - Sprong scores twice as Penguins shut out Bears in Game 1

Goaltender Casey DeSmith made 33 saves for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in a 4-0 road shutout of the rival Hershey Bears in Game 1 of their Atlantic Division final series Wednesday.

Right winger Daniel Sprong scored two goals for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton while right wingers Tom Kostopoulos and Carter Rowney each also netted goals.

Game 2 of the best-of-seven series will be Friday at Hershey, 7 p.m.

Goaltender Brian Foster made 27 saves for the Wheeling Nailers in a 4-1 road loss to the Reading Royals in Game 3 of their Eastern Conference quarterfinal series of the Kelly Cup playoffs. Reading leads the best-of-seven series, 2-1.

Forward Shane Bakker scored Wheeling’s lone goal.

Game 4 will be played at Reading Thursday, 7 p.m.
