Pre-game Notes:
*Rehab start for Cole: Gerrit Cole will make a rehab start Monday with Class AAA Indianapolis, said Hurdle. Cole seemed very open to a rehab start or two when he spoke earlier this week at PNC Park. He made a point to stress that it’s not worth it to work things out on the mound right now in a major league game when he can do that in the minors.
Cole threw a 60 pitch bullpen on Friday with Indy, according to Hurdle, and will shoot for 80 to 85 pitches in his Monday start.
*Alvarez close to returning: Sounds like Pedro Alvarez is nearing a return to the lineup. Hurdle said Alvarez shagged balls during BP, hit in the cage and Hurdle was hopeful he could be available off the bench for tonight‘s game. Brent Morel is starting at third base.
“So far he went out and shagged for early batting practice. He’s hit in the cage,” said Hurdle. “We’re waiting for him to get on the field to work on some defensive mobility things and hopefully tonight he’ll be able to be a player off the bench.”
