Steelers cut nine

The Steelers cut nine players this morning: running backs Jordan Hall and Miguel Maysonnet, tight end Eric Waters, safety Jordan Dangerfield, cornerbacks Devin Smith and Lewis Toler, linebacker Vic So’oto and receiver Kashif Moore and C.J. Goodwin.

The Steelers have six more roster moves to make before 4 p.m. to get to the league-mandated roster limit of 75. They must cut 18 more by Saturday to get to the regular-season limit of 53 roster players.

Some of the players cut today and later this week can be re-signed to the practice squad next week. The league allows each team to sign 10 players to their practice squad after all teams make their final cuts.

Dangerfield and So’oto did well during training camp and are candidates to be re-signed to the practice squad. The decision to cut So’oto also means the Steelers will take a long look at rookie undrafted free agent Howard Jones this week. It appears Jones and Chris Carter are in a battle to earn the fourth and likely final outside linebacker spot on the 53-man roster.
