Optional practice report
The Penguins had a short and sweet optional practice at Consol Energy this afternoon. Just seven players and one goalie took part.
They were: Backup goalie Thomas Greiss, along with Craig Adams, Robert Bortuzzo, Marcel Goc, Christian Ehrhoff, Beau Bennett, and Zach Sill.
Several other players were around and escorting their parents to a luncheon as part of “Parents Weekend” at Consol Energy Center. Coach Mike Johnston took the day off.
Of NOTE:
***Robert Bortuzzo said he as been medically cleared to rejoin the Penguins lineup, and is biding his time to crack the top-6 on defense.
“I’ve been able to play. I’ve been cleared and everything like that. Just waiting for a opportunity now,” said Bortuzzo. “Obviously we have talented defensemen here. [I’m] just working hard every day. I’m ready to go at any point here. I’ve been for a while now.”
***Jayson Megna said he’s ready to jump into Johnston’s system after joining the Penguins Thursday from the club’s AHL affiliate. He is still waiting to crack the lineup after seeing time in 36 games last year for the Penguins.
“It plays to my game, I think. Speed game, and fast, offensively. Hopefully if I do get a chance to play it will be a seamless transition. I haven’t heard anything. I guess I’ll find out in the next 24 hours.”
