The Penguins will face the Calgary Flames at 3 p.m. today at Consol Energy Center. Newly acquired defenseman Justin Schultz will not make his Penguins debut, but recalled forward Josh Archibald will make his NHL debut today.

Coach Mike Sullivan said he likes his defensive pairings as is, but would consider dressing seven defensemen at some point. Schultz, who arrived Wednesday from Edmonton, was also scratched on Thursday against the New York Rangers.

“Yes. I would. We’ve talked about it at times,” said Sullivan. “At this point we’ve been pleased with the six that have been in there the last handful of games here. I’m not a believer in change for the sake of change. We’ll see how it goes from game to game. As I said to Justin earlier today he’s going to be a big part of this moving forward. We believe he’s going to help us win. It gives us a little bit more time to spend with our coaches and familiarize himself with how we’re trying to play, the details of our team concept. I think it’ll be that much better for him when he does get in the lineup.”

Sullivan called Archibald an energy guy with an edge. Archibald, 23, was a sixth round draft pick by Pittsburgh in 2011 and played college hockey at University of Nebraska-Omaha.

“His foot speed is really going to help us. On the forecheck he’s a real energy guy. He brings a physical element to his game. He plays with an edge. He’s a fun guy to watch. His energy is infectious. I’m sure he’s going to help us in a lot of areas.”
