BRADENTON, Fla. -- The Pirates lost their second Grapefruit League game, 4-1, to the Blue Jays. Gerrit Cole allowed one run on one hit and one walk in two innings and Vance Worley gave up two runs and two hits in two innings.

Josh Harrison and Pedro Alvarez each had a hit. Harrison left the game after getting thrown out on the bases, doubled off second on a line drive to left-center field. The Pirates said he hurt his left ankle, the same one he twisted or rolled three times last year.

“You probably saw what I saw,” Clint Hurdle said. “I think he just rolled his ankle.”

Harrison declined to comment.

Cole threw both his slider and curveball.

“They're starting to have different shape, they're starting to be more defined,” he said. “It's just going to depend on the hitter and which one we call for, but I'm hoping to be able to have both weapons more often this year and that just comes through staying more disciplined in the delivery and trying to bring the same delivery out there every time.”

In this first game, Cole did not shake Francisco Cervelli. “I think it'll probably be like that for a little while until he really gets some information and I get some information from him and then we'll probably sit down at that point,” Cole said.

Alvarez’s hit, like his two extra-base hits Tuesday, went to the opposite field.

“He's been working hard at being a better hitter, being a more complete hitter,” Hurdle said. “We don't want him to back off, we want him to get his swings off. But to be cognizant of that fastball away could be hit early in the count. He's shown a very nice approach the last couple days about just covering the ball, hitting the ball hard where it's pitched.”
